Adding Audiobooks To Your BookFunnel Plan

Do you have a brand new audiobook you’d love to get out into the world? Or maybe you have a backlist of audiobooks you’d like to distribute from your own website.

With BookFunnel’s new audiobook feature, distributing your audiobooks has never been easier.

Choosing A Plan

First, you’ll want to choose which Audiobook add-on plan best suits your needs! Check out our pricing plans for all of the features and a break down of how the Delivered Hours of Audio (DHA) is calculated.

*The Audiobook Add-on is not available on the First Time Author Plan. You can choose to upgrade your base plan before adding the Audiobook Add-on.

How to Add the Audiobook Feature

Once you have decided on the plan that best fits your needs, adding the Audiobook feature is just a few clicks away!

Here’s how you set it up:

  • Login to your BookFunnel account
  • Click Account in the top right corner of your dashboard
  • Select Account Settings
  • Click Change Plan in the Audiobook Plan section
  • Select the plan you’d like to add
  • Click Select Audio Plan to save your changes

That’s it! The feature will now be live on your dashboard and ready for your files.

Audiobook Requirements

Our requirements follow the industry standard set by major audiobook retailers.

  • MP3 files only
  • 192 kbps (minimum)
  • Must begin with an Introduction or Opening Credits and end with an OutroEnd Credits, or Other

Note: If you use Audacity to create your files, you want to select constant bit rate and then select ‘at least 128 kbps‘ in your file’s settings.

How Downloads Are Counted (DHA)

BookFunnel tracks the number of hours that we deliver to your listeners each month. This accounts for your Delivered Hours of Audio allotment for the plan you chose.

For example, you have a 7-hour audiobook and you sell it directly on your web site. 10 readers purchase the audiobook and claim it for their BookFunnel libraries.

That’s 10 readers X 7 hours = 70 DHA.

You are only charged once for each delivery! Listeners are able to access your book multiple times, across various devices, and you will not be charged again.

Audiobooks are also metered by the minute. So, if you have two 30 minute books, then that’s only 1 hour of delivered audio. Your Monthly Allotment of Delivered Hours of Audio will reset on the first day of every month. Your monthly usage of your DHA will show on your dashboard in the coming weeks.

Audiobook Distribution

Our audiobook feature is compatible with all of the distribution features on your dashboard.

This includes:

Most readers will listen in the BookFunnel app, but you are also able to allow them to download your DRM-Free MP3 files.

Short Audio vs. Audiobooks

We often get asked what the difference is between our Short Audio and Full Audiobook features. The biggest difference is the number of files being uploaded.

Our Short Audio feature allows you to add a single file that is up to 120 minutes in length. This is great for samples or short reader magnets!

Our Full Audiobook feature will compile all of your chapter length MP3 files into one full book.

Short Audio is a separate feature from the full length Audiobook Add-on! If you only need to distribute single files at a time, then you don’t need to add the Audiobook feature.

Early Adopters: What happens if I don’t choose a plan?

If you don’t select a plan before the end of the Early Adopter period, the audiobook feature on your account will be disabled. This means, you can no longer distribute your audiobooks going forward.

All of the landing pages and features that deliver your audiobooks will expire, including Certified Mail campaigns, Print Codes, and Direct Sales.

For those listeners who have already received your book, they will still have access their books in their BookFunnel library. You just won’t be able distribute the book to any new listeners.

What happens if I decline to add an audiobook plan now, but want to add it back in at a later date?

When you reinstate the audiobook plan, the audiobooks that you had on your account will return to your dashboard, and you can distribute them just like any others. You may need to un-expire any pages that were tied to the audiobooks to make them live again.
