Sell on Lemon Squeezy and We’ll Deliver

With BookFunnel Delivery Actions, you can sell your book through Lemon Squeezy and BookFunnel will send a unique, private download link to your buyer automatically! We’ll also handle any tech support if the reader has trouble transferring the book to their reading device. Learn more about delivery actions and how they work.

Ready to get started? First we will save the delivery settings for Lemon Squeezy, and then we will create a delivery action for your book.

Note: Lemon Squeezy generously offered BookFunnel users a transaction discount of 5% + $0.30 per transaction, (normal fee is 5%+ $0.50 per transaction). Contact Lemon Squeezy at hello@lemonsqueezy.com to ask them to add the discount to your account!

Lemon Squeezy Delivery Settings

It takes about five minutes to save the delivery settings for Lemon Squeezy. This delivery setting tells Lemon Squeezy to notify BookFunnel when you sell a book (using a webhook). It also allows us to verify that a transaction is legitimate before we send a delivery email.

To set the delivery settings for Lemon Squeezy:

  1. Open your BookFunnel Sales dashboard
  2. Click Action and select Delivery Settings
  3. Enable Lemon Squeezy.
  4. Log into Lemon Squeezy in a separate browser window.
  5. Click Settings in the bottom-left corner of your Lemon Squeezy dashboard.
  6. Click API on the Navigation bar to the left.
  7. On the API Keys page, click on the Gray Plus Sign (+) to create a new key. (Not the purple plus sign at the top)
  8. Give your API Key a name.
  9. Set the Expiration Date as far out as it will let you. We suggest at least ten years in the future.
  10. Click Create API Key.
  11. At the pop up window, copy the entire API key.
  12. Return to BookFunnel, and paste the API key into the Lemon Squeezy API Key field.
  13. Click Save Settings.

Now Lemon Squeezy will send BookFunnel transaction data when you sell an item, and we can verify that it is valid.

Create your Product in Lemon Squeezy

You must first create a product in Lemon Squeezy, before you create a delivery action to match it. If you are creating a bundle, you only need to create one product that lists all the books in the bundle. You can deliver multiple books in the delivery action you will create later on.

  1. View your dashboard on Lemon Squeezy.
  2. Click the Purple Plus Sign (+) in the top right corner of the screen and select New Product.
  3. Name: Give your product a name.
  4. Description: Add in a description for this product.
  5. Pricing: Select Single Payment for a one time sale*.*
  6. Pricing Model: This will likely be Standard Pricing.
  7. Price: Add in the price of the book.
  8. Tax Category: If selling an ebook, click the dropdown and select Ebook from the list. If selling an audiobook, you will want to select Digital Goods and Services (Excluding Ebooks).
  9. Media: Add your cover image or graphic. This will display to the customers.
  10. Files: You do not need to add any files to the Files Section. BookFunnel will deliver the files for you.
  11. Links: Click the Links section to expand it. This section will allow you to create a button that displays when the customer completes the purchase. When the buyer clicks the link, the link will automatically search for their recent transactions in your store. This link will reduce the number or readers who lose their delivery email in their inbox!
    • Link Title: Add a call to action for the button. It can be something like, ’Download Now’ or ‘Get My Book’.
    • Link URL:
      1. Return to BookFunnel and copy your Product Button Link.
        • To find your Product Button Link:
          1. Visit your Sales dashboard.
          2. Click Action and select Delivery Settings
          3. Your Product Button Link is listed in the pop out window in your store’s setting.
          4. Click Copy to copy the link to your clipboard.
      2. Return to the product listing on Lemon Squeezy.
      3. Paste your Product Button Link in the Link URL field.
  12. Variants: You can offer variations of your digital book (example: Ebook and Audiobook) on the same listing. You will need to create a delivery action for each variation in order for BookFunnel to deliver each book.
  13. Settings: You’ll want to make sure that Display Product on Storefront is clicked to show it’s active.
  14. Confirmation Modal: After your customer has made their purchase, they will see a Thank You screen. Customize the title and message to your reader. This page another place in which you should use your Product Button Link!
    1. Button Text: This should be another call to action (Get my Books or Click for Book Links)
    2. Button Link: Paste your Product Button Link in this field. (See above to locate Product Button Link in BookFunnel).
  15. Email Receipt: Once more, Lemon Squeezy allows you to add your Product Button Link to your post checkout process. This will give your readers multiple opportunities to get their links, without having to look for a BookFunnel email in their inbox.
    1. Button Text: This should be another call to action (Get my Books or Click for Book Links)
    2. Button Link: Paste your Product Button Link in this field. (See above to locate Product Button Link in BookFunnel)

Now that you have created a product in Lemon Squeezy, you’ll need to set up a Delivery Action for this product. (Note: You’ll always want to create the product in Lemon Squeezy first.)

Lemon Squeezy Delivery Actions

A delivery action tells BookFunnel exactly which book (or books) to deliver when we receive a webhook from Lemon Squeezy.

If we receive a Lemon Squeezy transaction for an item that does not have a BookFunnel delivery action, we will simply ignore it.

  1. On your BookFunnel Sales dashboard, click Action and select +New Delivery Action.
  2. Name your delivery action Example: Book One with Extended Epilogue.
  3. Click the Books To Deliver field and select the book you want to deliver from the drop-down menu. If you are selling a bundle of books, click the field again to select additional books.
  4. Select Immediately for most delivery actions, or select At a later date to create a preorder.
    1. For Preorders, select the preorder delivery date. Makes sure that you return to lock the files once the book is ready to be delivered. Preorders that are not locked with not be delivered on release day.
  5. If you have enabled more than one sales platform, select Lemon Squeezy.
  6. Click the dropdown under Lemon Squeezy Product.
  7. Select the product name that you created on Lemon Squeezy for this delivery action. If you have a variant in the product listing, you’ll want to create a separate delivery action for that variation.
  8. You can optionally customize the delivery email and delivery page settings.
  9. Click Save And Close your new delivery action

Test Your New Delivery Action

Once your Lemon Squeezy product is live and your delivery action is all set, you will need to test the connection. To do this, you will purchase the book in your Lemon Squeezy store, just as if you are a reader. You can temporarily set the product to free or at a discount to perform the test purchase.

Do not use the Test Mode for this transaction!

Testing Free Books on First-Time Author Plan

BookFunnel will not send a delivery email on the First-Time Author plan on a free book.

You can still test with free books and check your dashboard to make sure Lemon Squeezy and BookFunnel can communicate. The BookFunnel Sales dashboard will indicate why a book wasn’t delivered. If the only reason it was not sent was the price, you know that everything is connected correctly! Once the book is not free, BookFunnel will send a delivery email on future purchases.

Activate a Paused Delivery Action

  1. Click Sales on your BookFunnel dashboard
  2. Click the name of the delivery action
  3. Click Action and select Edit Action Details
  4. Uncheck “Pause this Delivery Action”
  5. Save and close your delivery action

Additional Notes

  • Delivery Actions are available on all BookFunnel plans
  • Each buyer receives a unique download link
  • Buyers have 14 days to download the book files, but are given a message letting them know they can send themselves a new link. This action is only available on direct sales and gifted books
  • EPUB files are watermarked with the buyer’s identifying information
  • Delivery Action downloads are counted against your monthly download quota (just like a regular download)
