If you upload your Vellum Generic EPUB and see this message, your Generic EPUB might not look correct when sent to Kindle:
BookFunnel has detected issues in your Generic epub that may cause styling issues (like whole chapters in italics) when using Send to Kindle. We recommend that you upload your Vellum Kindle EPUB or enable the Kindle EPUB setting for this book.
BookFunnel checks your EPUB files for compatibility with Send to Kindle.
This error means that BookFunnel scanned your Generic EPUB and found issues that will likely italicize or bold text in your book, potentially entire chapters, when it is opened in the iOS Kindle app.
How to Address Issues
Thankfully, you use Vellum! And Vellum creates beautiful Kindle EPUBs for you. You can address this issue in one of two ways:
- Upload your Vellum Kindle EPUB, or
- Enable Kindle EPUB on the book and BookFunnel will clean up the styling issues that can cause unintentional italics and/or bold text.
These italics/bold problems will likely only appear in the iOS Kindle app (which is the most popular reading app in the US). Testing your Generic EPUB on any other Kindle or Kindle app won’t show you the styling issues BookFunnel detected. Learn why some books look ugly on iOS Kindle.
What does enabling Kindle EPUB do?
When you enable Kindle EPUB, BookFunnel makes very small, surgical changes to address the issues detected in the file. None of your styling is removed. The file is slightly tweaked to suit Send to Kindle’s conversion process.
The new file is labeled a “Kindle EPUB” on your dashboard and distributed to Kindle readers.
How to Enable Kindle EPUB
To enable a Kindle EPUB on your book:
- Click Books on your BookFunnel dashboard
